In my practice, I employ a range of techniques and evidence-based practices to help you navigate your new path forward. Everyone is unique, and what works well for one person may not be the best choice for another. Together, we will discover what works best for you to help you manage your life more effectively.

Specializations Briefly Explained

These are some of the specific techniques and evidence-based practices we will use as we cultivate your new path forward. I provide a short description of each specialization and a link to more information if you’d like to dig deeper:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization) – An evidence-based therapy developed in 1987 by Dr. Francine Shapiro. EMDR helps process trauma using eye movements or other bilateral stimulation such as tapping to reduce the mental, physical, and emotional distress related to the trauma.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – An evidence-based therapy designed to help identify unhelpful/unwanted patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and their interconnection. It helps individuals develop healthier and more fulfilling patterns to manage life’s challenges.
  • Narrative Exposure Therapy – An EBP (evidence-based practice) method developed by Michael White and David Epston to help people separate the challenges from themselves and begin to cultivate a healthy, true, and strengths-affirming life story.
  • Family Systems Therapy – An EBP meant to help families improve functioning by increasing awareness, learning new skills, understanding one another, and creating improved interactions and culture. Family Systems Therapy views the family as a system of individuals who are connected and contributing to the family condition. These contributions may be positive or challenging. Family Systems Therapy is team work.
  • Play Therapy – An EBP effective in helping youth and when appropriate, adults, process and express emotions and experiences and improve functioning.
  • Yoga Therapy – Yoga and movement are included in Somatic Therapy, an ECP (external counterpulsation). It helps manage conditions such as depression, anxiety, and trauma-related concerns. Somatic Therapy helps build self-awareness, improved self-regulation/self-soothing, and decreased stress levels.
  • Mindfulness Therapy – Helpful in shifting from worry mind, which often focuses on the past or future. Mindfulness techniques encourage nonjudgmental self-observation and acceptance and helps create habits of living in the present.
  • Walk and Talk Therapy – When relevant can aid in boosting mood and overall health while mitigating symptoms.
  • Creative Expressive Strategies – Helpful at any age in communicating and resolving distressing events, feelings and thoughts.
