“Justice Impacted” refers to individuals and family members impacted by the justice system, including incarcerated people as well as those with arrest and conviction histories.
I am interested in these communities. Because I experienced a loved one’s incarceration, I know the importance of community, understanding and care.
Individuals and families directly or indirectly impacted by the justice system may experience a variety of challenges and benefit from support at various points. Here are a few examples:
- You feel anything from upset to deeply devastated when you find yourself involved with the justice system.
- You feel like you’re in crisis – unsure what to do, isolated, scared, confused, shocked, angry.
- You find it challenging to navigate the system.
- You experience stress and worry related to attending court.
- You have difficulty managing stressful situations like trial and sentencing.
- You struggle to maintain health and wellness in the event a loved one is sent to jail or prison.
- You are uncertain how to cope with the impact on you, your family, and friends.
- You are uncertain how to maintain family connections.
- You are preparing for release and family reunification.
